Nicole Ofiesh, PhD

Dr. Ofiesh is the Director of the Schwab Learning Center at Stanford University, Director of the UDL Innovation Studio in Partnership with CAST at Stanford, and Sr. Research Scientist at CAST, the pioneering research and development organization on Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Dr. Ofiesh believes in optimizing performance through creating meaningful educational experiences that cross the lifespan: school, work and civic engagement. This practice is grounded in a strengths-based model of learning that meets individuals’ needs through meeting classroom and workforce demands, technology, unique learning strategies, self-awareness, accommodations, and engagement. She has been in hundreds of classrooms over the past thirty years implementing, observing and studying various types of education for all learners. She has held faculty and research positions at Stanford University, Penn State University, Providence College, University of Arizona and Notre Dame de Namur University where she was Program Director of Special Education and Department Chair of Teacher Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from Penn State University, with a specialization on postsecondary students with learning disabilities. In addition, she has completed post-graduate studies in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. She is a Fellow of the International Academy of Research in Learning Disabilities.
