Athletics, clubs and other activities are essential ingredients in the overall quality of the Compass school culture. They offer opportunities for students to engage in social interaction with other students and to pursue outside interests in areas not included in the daily curriculum. The activities activate different parts of the brain, serving as a complimentary benefit to the education program.
Our philosophy at Compass High School is that like so many other opportunities in a small school, athletics should be a rewarding experience that is encouraged for all of our students. Our goal is to provide athletic opportunities that are competitive but also inclusive. We participate in the Bay Area Small School Athletic League (BASSAL) which offers Basketball, European Handball, Table Tennis, Dodgeball, and Cross Country.
Clubs are one way students can share and pursue their unique interests with like-minded peers. At Compass, students who have a topic they are passionate about are highly encouraged to start a club. Clubs are embedded into the school day and meet once a week, so that every student can participate. All clubs are led by faculty advisors.
Club offerings vary from year to year depending on student interest. Examples of club offerings are:
- Arts and Crafts
- Board Games
- Student Council
