"It is very difficult to find a program for a child, who needs some extra help and support, a child, who is learning at a pace different from regular peers. The first time I visited Compass High School I was not only impressed, I was shocked, in a good way! "

Current Parent

"There is a very high level of individualization, school truly "teaches each and every child"

“The most impactful part of Compass are the small classes and really being able to connect with the teachers. I feel comfortable making a mistake because my teacher's know it is a part of the learning process.”

Welcome From Our New Head of School

Dear Compass High School Community,

It is with much pride and excitement for the coming year that I write to you today initiating my tenure as Head of Compass High School. I am indeed honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a committed faculty and staff and look forward to building on the school’s foundation with all members of the Compass community. I have worked in education for over twenty years as both a teacher and administrator yet, for me, education always comes down to teaching and learning.

Compass is moving into its seventh year after being founded by parents that wanted a truly student-centered school that sees honest potential in all who attend.  The school has grown into a wonderful learning community that works to meet every student where they are—fostering a growth mindset while teaching a college preparatory curriculum. We recognize that all students learn differently and use this knowledge to help build a learning environment that is truly collaborative and hone in on strengthening individual skills.  We are small enough to get to know every student in a personal way and want to partner with parents to place students on a path to success. We view this success holistically. Not only are Compass students academically prepared upon graduation, but we also aspire to have graduates who know themselves and are comfortable with who they are because we value social-emotional intelligence as much as academic skills.

I am excited to be leading this wonderful school. I know we have a fantastic faculty and staff, families committed to their student’s success, and a Board of Trustees that is eager to move the school forward. I hope we will build a partnership together that will help every student realize their full potential. I look forward to meeting you all personally and—most of all—getting to know the students of Compass High School.

We look forward to a productive year together building on our inspiring past and helping every student find an individualized path to navigate the next steps in their education and life.

Come grow with us.

Sincerely,

Doug Killin
