EXTENSIVE AND INDIVIDUALIZED
student support services
“It is very difficult to find a program for a child who needs some extra help and support, a child who is learning at a pace different from regular peers. The first time I visited Compass High School I was not only impressed, I was shocked, in a good way!”

Individualized student support
Compass offers a dynamic college preparatory program with an array of accommodations and modifications tailored to each student to ensure mastery of challenging content.
We use many excellent research-based instructional programs for students with learning differences that incorporate multisensory instruction into their designs.
We offer a team approach in which teachers, speech and language specialists, and occupational, and psycho-therapists collaborate on an integrated, individualized program.
Organizational strategies and school routines are consistently implemented to ensure that students practice and master essential skills.
Our homework policies and support build independence and self-advocacy skills. Student’s educational experiences are enriched through experiential, hands-on activities, including vibrant arts and athletic programs.
Support services overview
-
Every student at Compass is assigned to an advisory group run by a faculty advisor. Advisory groups are small, usually five students or fewer.
The Advisory Program focuses on organization, homework and social emotional learning. Students are prompted to use their on-line learning management systems, assisted in planning their homework schedule, and provided regular follow up on their homework completion.
Advisors also stay in close contact with parents, tracking homework, attendance, and success in their courses and opening up lines of communication with families.
-
We maintain a counselor on staff to assist students with social skills such as dealing with the challenges of adolescence, establishing friendships, developing coping skills and advocacy skills, among others.
In addition to drop in services, individual psychotherapy as well as psycho-educational testing services are available for an additional fee.
-
Compass’ program is designed to provide students with an educational program that is individualized and intensive. Because of our small class size and academic skills courses, most students don’t require one-on-one tutoring.
However, for students who need individual educational therapy, this service is available on-site for an additional fee.
-
An occupational therapist pushes into classrooms to assist students in developing gross and fine motor skills. An available OT consults with teachers, focusing on students’ ability to develop independent living skills and use technology.
Individual OT services are available on site for an additional fee.
-
An available licensed Speech and Language Pathologist works with students who require individual speech and language therapy to address deficits in expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language.
This service is available for an additional fee.
